Jasper is a rock found in different parts of the world and is made up of different minerals, mainly quartz, potassium feysphite and plagioclase. It is a hard, durable rock that has been used for centuries for various purposes, such as jewelry, monuments and building materials.

The Origin of Jasper

Funnily enough, water plays an important role in the formation of Jasper. That is why Japis is also often found near hot springs, geysers or in cavities of volcanic rock. When minerals such as silicon dissolve in this hot water, it becomes silicic acid or silicic acid. If the silicic acid solidifies because it cools down or because the silicic acid content has become too large, quartz will precipitate out of it. Usually this is a kind of gel-like mass at first, but when the water evaporates, Jasper or Flint is formed. Jasper gets its color depending on the other minerals.

There are different types of jasper, the color is similar to petrified wood , depending on the minerals it contains. For example, there is red jasper, which is often used in jewelry and was created by combining quartz with hematite, an iron oxide. There is also green jasper, which is made from chalcedony, a silicon dioxide. Other types of jasper are blue, yellow, brown and black.
